Articulate’s Owen Phillips, 10, is starring in Asda’s 2021 Christmas Advert. Taking the role of the Hero Son, Owen skates into an ASDA store that has now re-opened, performs on stage in a Nativity play for school, glides through an office party and sails into a festive celebration taking place at home.
His character’s route is a guided tour of the places and events which have been closed to us during the course of lockdown restrictions and are now starting to open up again.
Owen needed an unusual combination of skills for this role, requiring both excellent ice-skating ability and the capacity to act a part in front of a camera. However, Owen was no stranger to the ice, having skated for the Great British Synchronized Skating team, and his years of Drama Classes with Articulate well prepared him for such a demanding role, helping to bring out his natural talent.
Owen has a wealth of experience in film and television acting, having participated in the Filming of the Fog, Dodger, Gentleman Jack and Sherwood as well as adverts for Nintendo and the Sun Euros.
While Owen enjoyed the whole process of filming immensely, saying “The production team took great care of me”, he said his favorite part was in costume for the school play scene. Clearly, such a great actor has no trouble bringing the role of a Christmas Pudding to life!
